Hannah Hewer MA Drama Writing Student

Biography

Hannah Hewer is a poetry, prose and script writer from Caerphilly, South Wales. She graduated from UWE with first-class honours in Drama and Creative Writing, where she worked with a group of peers to produce her first staged show She, a selection of monologues following four tenacious young women as they navigate young adult life and the ever-looming threat brought on by existing in a feminine body.

Alongside her current MA studies, Hannah wrote Before Everything Burns for Just Rush Performers, working alongside a cast with varying levels of theatrical experience.  This new full-length drama was catered towards an audience of Gowerton community members and pub-goers who wouldn’t usually engage in the medium, and put a modern spin on the classic dinner table drama.

Hannah has continued to build a repertoire of original songs, which she self-produces and posts to her long running YouTube channel, Sings’N’Things, where she has built up an audience of over four thousand.  A handful of her works have gained over thirty thousand views and she enjoys taking initiative to improve the quality of her work through self-teaching and experimentation.  She commonly writes songs as part of her script writing process, Intrusive and Comfort Zone can be found on her channel, using character perspectives and early extracts from her signature script Wish You Were Here.

Her interests lie in crafting intimate female led stories exploring innocence, sexuality and mental health. Following her graduation she hopes to push the limits of her stage plays.

During her time at BOVTS she has discovered a real interest in radio/audio drama and short films and would love to delve more into these mediums.  In the future she aspires to be a part of a literary team and to further immerse herself in the theatre scene.

The culture at BOVTS is encouraging, respectful, welcoming and empowering; the environment and buildings are beautiful and I found Bristol to be one of the most wonderful cities in which to spend summer! Lindy Yeates, Foundation Course Student
