Kt Vacara
FdA Costume for Theatre, Film and Television
Kt began her career in the workroom at Giffords Circus, whilst exploring costume history and making techniques at college. At BOVTS Kt established that the challenge of precision working, making historical costume for film and TV, is what excites her. She has experience as a Costume Standby on Alex Rider TV series, and as Costume Maker on a Disney project in the workroom of Sallyann Dicksee.

Recycled Victorian Tailcoat
Kt did a fabulous job of bringing to life Maria Terry’s recycled tailcoat design. Kt drafted a traditional men’s tailcoat and altered it to suit the design. She also enjoyed hand painting recycled hemp and using recycled postal sacks, as she very much feels the need to be as sustainable as possible when working. The sustainability element of the design is what attracted Kt to want to make it, and she is proud of the fact that not one piece of fabric or button was bought new!
Farmer Smock
For this costume make Kt did extensive research into traditional smocking techniques and patterns. This was her first experience of practising traditional smocking, and because she spent time being accurate, provided a beautiful outcome. Kt finished the costume by dyeing it by hand and also breaking it down to represent Max Dorey’s design. This costume was worn in the show Far from the Madding Crowd (2020).
Hedda Dressing Gown
Kt drafted, printed, painted, and made this Vivian Westwood inspired dressing gown designed by Bronia Housman and worn for Hedda (2020). She took this make as an opportunity to print and paint the fabric herself as she finds satisfaction in being involved in the creative making process from start to finish. Kt spent two days in the dye room at BOVTS printing using two screens and proceeding to finish the print with detailed hand painting, and was very pleased with the drape and overall finish of the garment.
