Alice Sales

MA Performance Design Student

Biography

Alice is a Bristol based theatre designer working across both set and costume design. She has a particular interest in site specific and devised work and is passionate about creating theatre to green book principles.

As well as designing for BOVTS productions, she used her MA year to devise an immersive project for National Trust gardens in collaboration with writer Nicole Darvill-Batten, inspired by the non-native plants that make up many traditional English gardens.

Prior to studying at BOVTS she received her BA from London College of Fashion (2018), and then became Head of Visual Merchandising for vintage retailer Beyond Retro. She decided a change in career was due after undertaking a short course in scenic construction at RADA and a design masterclass with theatre company Punchdrunk.

BOVTS credits include set design for Emilia directed by Sally Cookson (Circomedia), set and costume for Out of Love directed by Lydia Mckinnley (Wardrobe Theatre).

Students developing and growing in confidence during their time here, seeing their work reaching professional standards in approach and execution; a student who intends to be a stage manager producing a wonderful sound design; a first year student making a lovely recording of a song for their recording project; tracking the careers of former students and seeing them be successful; being able to find a job opportunity for a recent graduate.
